Top Time Tip #132

How To Make Time For Quality Time For Your Family!

25th January 2009

Happy 2010 - my first ezine for the year and it's a short one, just to help us all get back into work mode. I do hope you had a happy break from normal work for a few days (at least.) At our place, not only did we have a very busy and happy family time, but two of our gang managed to pop out babies last week. Blimey, how did I ever become the grandmother of 14?

And here's a fine thought from Benjamin Franklin to start the year well.

"Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbours and let each New Year find you a better man."

Cheers,

Lead Article:   How To Make Time For Quality Time For Your Family

One of my regular correspondents, retired clergyman Mike Cotton , shared some profound wisdom after reading the last ezine http://www.gettingagrip.com/ttt/WeDontHaveToWorkThisHard%21.asp

"Robyn, I read your last ezine with interest. O'Hagan's and Phillip's comments on day dreaming and time outrang a chord.

"When I was in my first full time parish my spiritual director was spiritual.jpg concerned about the amount of time I was giving to people in need (which is actually what my '"calling'" was about!). He pointed out that I was neglecting my family and more importantly my marriage!

"I diarised my time for a month, 15 minutes by 15 minutes, and discovered to my horror that I was probably on duty at least 80 hours a week.

"My director had a very simple solution. He suggested that every day I make an appointment in my diary for my wife (the children had left home by this time). Nothing was allowed to take precedence over the hour set aside for Lynne each day.

"Not only was it good for our relationship but it also completely took me away from the stresses of looking after people. And, it meant that I was a better minister and counsellor because of that time out.

"I am also the world's biggest dreamer . My favourite movie from  years ago was Danny Kaye's '" The secret life of Walter Mitty '". Walter in h is daydreams became a super hero Danny Kaye.jpgrescuing beautiful damsels in distress only to wake and find he was still just Walter. Eventually he came to the realisation that being Walter was O.K. - he didn't have to be a super hero to find a special relationship.

"It took me many years to realise the same truth but I still spend time as the children call it '"away with th e fairies'". Having read your article I shall continue to do so!!"

Here are my questions to us all - me included.

Who are you going to make a priority this year?
And how often do you allow yourself time to daydream?

I Have Exciting News ... ...

The 3 Divas are back! I am thrilled to be working again with Allison Mooney and Yvonne Godfrey - this time for The 3 Divas New Zealand Maximiser Tour. Due to demand from people asking for more, more, more we've changed the format and extended the time.

When you attend the Maximiser Tour , coming to a city near you in March 2010 , you'll gain a wealth of tools and techniques that will transform your working life and that of your employees. You'll discover the crucial secrets to sustainable success for yourself and your business.

This is your personal invitation to join us, plus I have an irresistible offer for you when you register before January 31st. (More about the tour and your offer in a moment.) First though, here's a taste of the wisdom of my friends.

As the credit card bills roll in after Christmas, have you ever reflected on what sort of spender you are?

Allison's recent article: Discover Your Money Personality gives valuable insights into how each personality type spends and how to use your money personality to your financial advantage . Check it out in the 3 Divas f.ree resources library .

Of course to spend you need to earn. I was fascinated to find out what 3% of Harvard Business School graduates did differently that saw them earning 10 times as much as their classmates 10 years later.

Goal setting was the answer - one of the topics I specialise in. You discover the secrets of goal setting in my 29 page ebook GettingAGrip on Simple Goal Setting which you can get for f.ree right now .

During the Maximiser Tour, Allison will focus on Maximising Performance by Pressing the Right Buttons . What Allison will show you will increase your profits, help you close more deals, reduce people problems and get inside the minds of your staff and customers . Find out more about Maximising Performance here .

Yvonne Godfrey will be focusing on Maximising Your Leadership to  ensure you're not getting in the way of your own and your company's success. Yvonne will show you how to build trust and loyalty , improve your reputation, create systems for sustainable growth and improve the way you lead your team and your company. Click here to find out all the details.

Do you feel like you're forced to do everything yourself? Does the work just keep piling up?

For many managers and business owners it's only a matter of time before you burn out.

That's my focus for you when you attend the Maximiser Tour. I'll show you how to Maximise Your Own and Your Team's Time .

What's Different About This Tour?

When you attend, you'll start the day with a keynote from each of the 3 Divas, then in the afternoon you'll get personal, hands-on workshop time with the Diva of your choice.

By choosing my workshop you'll find out:

  • The barriers of effective delegation to watch out for.
  • How to achieve willing co-operation from your colleagues.
  • A powerful diagnostic tool to work out the next steps in your staff training.
  • What to do when your staff are delegating to you!
