time management

Do you really know how much your own time is worth? How much do your staff really cost you?

It's not a question many people ask. Let's say someone is paid $50,000 a year. You could double that with staff taxes, rent, benefits, holidays etc. So that's $100,000 a year which, for a 45 hour week is $44 an hour.

Now ask, how much productive time do they have? According to a global survey conducted by Microsoft, “People work an average of 45 hours a week; they consider about 17 of those hours to be unproductive.” That's nearly 40% of their time is unproductive. That means poor productivity is costing you $792 per person per week!

It gets worse!

As a top producer for your company – a sales manager, CEO or the owner. You need to work out your profit per hour that you generate. So if your business or division makes $1m a year in sales, one hour is worth $500. Yes, one hour is worth FIVE HUNDRED dollars in sales. THAT'S why it's important that you get control of your time.

Do you know how much REALLY productive time you have?

Worse still! This is the scary question. How much time are you actually producing sales or profit? That is your main task, right?

“The national average (productive work) for an entrepreneur is 2 hours a day” (Source: Inspector Success). Get that – 2 hours a day! So, using the $500 an hour, if you can get just one extra hour a day more productivity, that's worth $125,000 a year. Suddenly your sales targets look a whole lot easier don't they?

You think that's bad! Look at this for life in a big corporation. It has been estimated that a CEO of a major corporation has only 30 minutes a day when he is actually producing revenue and profit.
What could you do with that extra $125,000?

  • Reduce your company's debt?
  • Hire another staff member.
  • Run another marketing campaign?

All from one extra hour a day doing what you should be doing, by using some simple productivity tools.
