A little of my personal history might explain why I'm so passionate about this topic.

Eighteen years ago I was a solo mother of six children and a high-earning real estate agent. The money was excellent, but came at a price - constant burn out.

Ill health, exhaustion, frustration; you name it - I've been there! I was a slow learner, but finally one day it dawned on me that there wasn't much point having good income if you haven't got good health. At that moment a friend pointed me in the direction of a decent diary system.

I sent away for the same kind of diary as Tony. With it came a tape, not just about how to use the system, but also outlining the time management principles behind the product. It was as though someone had taken the shutters down and let the sunshine in! For the first time in my life it seemed as though the tiller was in my hand, that the old sensation of being a rudderless boat at the mercy of wind and tide was gone, that instead I could have some control over the direction of my life.

It was so exciting.

As I started to implement the methods learnt from that tape, it began to make a difference. There were stumbles and bumbles; there were times I forgot to plan in the way I'd learnt. But life began to change. Bit by bit, over the next year, I gained my health back, learnt how to delegate better, and learnt how to steer my life in the direction I really wanted to go, instead of feeling constantly frustrated at missed goals.

And then an amazing thing happened. I'd changed direction with my work. (Unfortunately this wonderful new knowledge came too late to save me for the real estate industry - burn out had happened one time too many). At the time I was working part-time work for a lady with a training business.

She said, one morning, 'Robyn, I've got a client who needs help with his time management.'

I looked at her, puzzled.

'I think you should help him.'

'Me!' I gasped. 'Why me? You know how much I struggle with this topic. I always rush to get here on time, and sometimes I'm even late!'

'Sure', she acknowledged, 'but you are getting better, you give great value when you're here, and I know you understand the principles.'

And that was the beginning of the journey. Paul, that first client all those years ago, worked with me for over two years as a student and became a good friend.
