Briefing Questions for a Speech/Conference Keynote/Breakout Session

We have a mutual goal - to help your programme be more successful. To help achieve this we have created this short questionnaire designed to help you get the very best outcome from your event. You may want to fax this back, but probably you'll prefer to run through the questions with Robyn very quickly in a phone briefing or face-to-face meeting.

A professional speaker needs a quality briefing from you, the client, if they're to do a top-class job. There is only a short amount of time to transfer the message. Therefore we really value you taking the time to consider the following questions.

If you are engaging one of our top-level trainers or presenters to run a longer programme, the briefing needs are different. However, it may prompt your thinking to run your eye over these questions and thought-starters.

Programme

What are your key objectives/theme for the conference?

What are your key objectives for this sessions(s)? What seeds do you want sown? Do you want it informational/motivational/practical content-based?

What are the three key problems in your business right now? (Anything that keeps you up at night and drives you crazy during the day?)

If I could wave a magic wand and make any problem disappear, which one would it be?

Bottom Line - what do you hope participants will gain from this presentation? How can I go the extra mile for you in this presentation?

Problems, challenges, breakthroughs currently being experienced by your industry, organisation, people?

Are there any sensitive issues which need avoiding? Any issues between the different arms of your organisation/ interstate/internationally that I should know about? Any terminology to watch out for?

What is the composition of my likely audience? Gender balance? Numbers? From which countries and approximate % from each country? How many conferences would most of these people have attended in the past, with your firm? Average years in the industry? Average years with your company? General description of audience (sales, retail, management, admin)?

Background

How many education sessions are provided each year for the attendees?

What professional speakers / outside experts have you used at your past events?

Your group's reaction to their presentations:

What influenced your decision to run one of our topics at your event:

Follow- Up

Do you have any in-house mechanisms in place to re-capture the Robyn Pearce message in the future?

Do you need some direction with these?
Suggestions:

  • Providing an audio tape of the session to the company (we will discuss the investment with you);
  • Enrolling them in our On-line Time Management programme (price on application, depending on number enrolling);
  • Providing a copy of 'Getting a grip on time' to each participant - usually $25, but conference special $22;
  • Securing a master set of the 5-tape audio set of 'Getting a grip on time', with permission to reproduce as often as you wish for in-house use - $1,000;
  • Engaging Robyn to write one or more articles for your in-house and/or client publications - if something already written - n/c, or a commissioned article - $400)

Things that help us

It would really help things along if you could possibly supply some or all of the following:

  1. The Company's Mission Statement
  2. Recent newsletters / in-house publications
  3. Annual / quarterly report
  4. Summary of programs offered to this audience in the past 12 months
  5. Information about the Company / Organisation's background
  6. Brief descriptions of structure, products, services, market, competition
  7. Resource materials - e.g. corporate brochures, product information, statistics, promotional material

Note In addition to standard materials you can supply us, is there anything else you believe would be useful for your presenter to know (mergers, new management, etc):

Thank you for your help.
